Report highlights:

Consumer prices increased moderately with rates just above 1% in the first quarter and therefore remained below the 2013 first quarter increase rates. The low consumer price increase was largely driven by the warm weather as energy costs declined. Service costs increased and noticeable price increased for food has been the main driver for the overall quarterly development.

Consumer confidence is very high and the household disposable income is rising further fuelling the already high consumer spending. Given the improvement in consumer confidence, consumer spending is anticipated to grow even stronger than the disposable income resulting in further declining private savings. The approved minimum wage might be a further drive due to the positive sentiment even when its impact on the overall economic development is more likely to be negative.

The consumption level especially for soft drinks in the first quarter was highly impacted by the late Easter. While Easter in 2013 was in March, stock purchases and the extra consumption occasion fell into the first quarter.
