Molybdenum Ore is an important metal mineral resource. The main component is molybdenum (chemical symbol: Mo), which is a silvery-white plastic metal. Molybdenum has excellent physical and chemical properties such as high strength, high melting point, high hardness, good thermal and electrical conductivity, abrasion resistance, small thermal expansion coefficient, and strong corrosion resistance.

After processing, molybdenum ore is mainly used to extract molybdenum metal, and molybdenum metal and its compounds have a wide range of uses in many fields. Molybdenum plays an irreplaceable role in the steel industry, aerospace, automobile manufacturing, electronics, chemicals and machinery. Its wide range of applications and importance make it an indispensable strategic metal resource for modern industry.

The world's molybdenum ore resources are mainly concentrated in the Pacific Rim, Tethys and Central Asia-Mongolia metallogenic belts. According to CRI analysis, China, Chile, the United States, Peru and Mexico are the world's major producers of molybdenum ore, and the combined output of the five countries accounts for more than 90% of the world's total output.

The global molybdenum market has shown a growth trend in the past few years. With the global economic recovery, the development of the manufacturing and automotive industries, especially the rapid development of the automotive, aerospace and new energy vehicle industries, molybdenum, as an important strategic metal, has continued to grow in demand.

In addition, due to factors such as the decline in the grade of copper-molybdenum associated ores and the difficulty in developing large new mines, it is difficult to significantly increase the supply of molybdenum ore. Therefore, it is expected that the global molybdenum ore supply and demand gap will continue to expand in the next few years.

Mexico has rich molybdenum resources, mainly concentrated in San Luis Potosi, Zion Mountain and Guanajuato. In 2023, Mexico's molybdenum production will be 16,000 tons. According to CRI analysis, Mexico's molybdenum production areas are widely distributed, mainly in Sonora, Chihuahua, San Luis Potosi and other regions, among which Sonora is one of the provinces with the largest molybdenum production in Mexico. In the next few years, Mexico will plan to launch several large-scale molybdenum mining projects, including underground and open-pit mining, beneficiation plants and logistics centers, to enhance its position in the global mining market.

Mexican molybdenum ore is mainly exported to the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. According to CRI data, Mexico's molybdenum ore exports reached US$670 million in 2024. Mexico plans to attract international investors to participate in molybdenum ore exploration and development projects through external bidding to further expand Mexico's molybdenum ore capacity.

According to CRI analysis, from 2021 to 2024, the main export destinations of Mexican molybdenum ore include South Korea, the Netherlands and Chile. The companies that import this product from Mexico are mainly some traders and metal smelting companies. The main exporters of Mexican molybdenum ore are mainly local mining companies in Mexico.

Mexico has advantages in the production and export of molybdenum ore. CRI predicts that as the global demand for molybdenum continues to grow, especially in the application of high-tech manufacturing and new energy fields, Mexico's molybdenum ore exports will continue to grow. CRI recommends that global mining-related companies should conduct timely research on the Mexican market and prepare for the layout of the Mexican and North American markets.
