The North America Capacitive Sensor Market would witness market growth of 6.8% CAGR during the forecast period (2020-2026).
Capacitive sensors are separate devices so that the sensor is either on or off when you change the sensitivity to identify the target while you disregard the container. In the case of a standard capacitance sensor, or in the case of hybrid technology, the sensor is also looking for the dielectric constant. Recent technology developments with remote amplifiers have allowed capacitive sensors to provide analog output or digital input via IO-Link. These sensors are centered on a dielectric constant so that the analog value produced depends on the media being sensed.
While capacitive sensors are versatile for use in many applications, they are not the right choice for all applications. Recently, the customer asked whether a capacitive sensor could detect the density of the substance and, unfortunately, the short answer is no, although in some applications analog sensors can detect different media levels if they can be separated in a centrifuge. In addition, capacitive sensors may not detect small amounts of media as the media’s dielectric constant must be greater than the media container.
Increasing government support for research and development activities in nanotechnology-based applications like space exploration, medicine, food packaging and water purification has stimulated market growth. The National Science Foundation (NSF) has been providing financing, for instance, for the development of capacitive sensors for the health and food and beverage industry, since September 2016 to various companies such as Texas Instruments Incorporated and Synaptics Inc. In addition, the decrease in the size of the capacitive sensors allowed it to be used for motion stabilizing purposes in aerial unmanned vehicles and in mobile robotics.
