The new report recognizes the following companies as the key players in Global Clean Coal Technologies Market: Alstom SA, Dongfang Electric Corp. Ltd., Foster Wheeler AG, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., Shanghai Electric Group Co. Ltd., Babcock & Wilcox Co., Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., Rafako SA, IHI Corp., Hitachi Ltd
Commenting on the report, an analyst from the reports team said: “The focus area of several governments worldwide is to develop new technologies and more importantly, deploy them commercially. IGCC and CCS are relatively newer and technically viable technologies, which have still not gained popularity worldwide because of their higher capital and operational costs. Presently, very few IGCC plants have become commercially operational in the US, Europe, and Japan. However, the scenario is changing as several new IGCC plants are under construction and are being set up in countries such as China, Japan, Korea, and the US. CCS is another technology, which is at a very nascent stage of growth. However, considering its inherent capability of reducing carbon emissions drastically, countries worldwide are placing emphasis on the development of this technology further so that it can be commercially used.. Several countries have also initiated research on advanced USC technology, which is expected to increase the efficiency of power plants to more than 50 percent as well as reduce carbon emissions significantly. ”
According to the report, one of the main drivers in this market is the requirement for a reduction in carbon emissions and increased efficiency. Countries worldwide are endeavoring to reduce their emissions and also to ensure energy security.
Further, the report states that one of the major challenges confronting the market is the capital-intensive nature of clean coal projects. The more sophisticated the technology used, the higher the capital and operating costs requirements associated with the clean coal project. As a result, advanced clean coal technologies (IGCC or CCS) are not widely used, as they are still not cost-competitive compared with other cleaner sources of energy such as renewables or gas.
The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
