The report, now available on ASDReports, recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global airborne ISR market: BAE Systems, L-3 Communications, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and UTC Aerospace Systems
Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Boeing, General Dynamics, Raytheon, Rockwell Collins, and Thales
Commenting on the report, an analyst said: “The use of stealth technology, also called low observable technology, began in the late 1960s. It advocates a sub-discipline of defense tactics that promotes passive electronic countermeasures to make aircraft, submarines, ships, missiles, and satellites less visible or undetectable to radars, IR, sonars, or other detection platforms.”
According to the report, owing to the growing possibilities of terrorist attacks through sea routes and increased illegal dealings in mid-oceans, it has become increasingly important for countries to enhance their vigilance systems that can gather information from these regions and help improve the combat readiness of the battalions. Many countries are in the process of augmenting their maritime security capabilities to ensure that hostile and illegal infiltration do not take place in their territories. At the same time, major defense contractors are enhancing or modernizing the existing airborne ISR systems (such as MPA, special mission aircraft, and UAVs) to cater to the global defense and security needs.
Further, the report states that rising investments and R&D have increased the complexity in the operation of modern radar systems. The modern cruise missiles are hard to detect due to the reduced radar cross-sections of their aerodynamic designs. It is also becoming difficult to provide protection against cruise and guided missiles. Thus, current radar technologies must be improved to counter such threats. In addition, other prominent technical threats include unstable propagation of radio waves, stringent data encryption laws, and limited use of spectrum.
The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
