With 700+ Planned Pipelines Expected to Come Online by 2020; the Global Energy Sector is Set to Witness Massive Change in the Way Energy Resources Move
According to Energy Research specialist, there are over 700+ planned pipelines globally (including stalled) which are expected to come online by 2020 creating a network of over 257,000+ kms transporting Crude Oil, Petroleum products, Natural Gas and Natural gas liquids (NGLs) across different geographies. Currently, the pack is being led by Natural Gas pipelines accounting for over 64.7% of total planned pipelines followed by Crude and Petroleum products with 21.1% and 10.2% share respectively.

The key player recent research publication “Global Planned Oil and Gas Pipelines Industry Outlook to 2020 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Planned Pipelines” provides comprehensive analytics on major, trunk oil and gas planned pipelines industry in the world. The report provides planned pipeline details such as pipeline/pipeline system name, operator name, start year, start point, end point, length, capacity and diameter for all major, trunk crude oil, petroleum products and natural gas pipelines across the world by country and by region.

According to the report, the total length of planned transmission pipeline network in Africa is 31,997 km, of which, planned crude oil pipelines constitute 7,943 km, planned petroleum products pipelines constitute 5,582.9 km and planned natural gas pipelines constitute 18,471.0 km. With United States heading ahead with longest planned crude oil pipelines network and India taking up the World’s longest planned petroleum products pipelines network; Africa’s share in the global planned transmission pipeline length is 12.4%.

The report further in its outlook portrays capital expenditures at global as well as regional level by year and by key countries for planned oil and gas pipelines till 2020. The report also provides key country comparisons within a region and regional comparisons, based on contribution to total pipeline length (regional/global). As of now, the total length of top 10 planned transmission pipelines in the world is 36,920.0 km. Iran–Iraq–Syria–Lebanon is the longest planned natural gas pipeline in the world. It is expected to start its operations in 2018 with a length of 6,000 km and a design capacity of 1,424.2 bcf.
