HTS uses numerous small spot beams distributed across a particular service area. These beams help the satellite establish links to small apertures in Earth stations at high data rates.

Even a one-degree error in the alignment of the VSAT dish could translate into an alignment error of more than 600 kilometers away from the satellite.
