Nuclear Plant Components in Demand as Power Source Retains Appeal
Although nuclear energy is still a major power source for developed regions around the world, emerging economies are picking up the pace with ambitious development plans, states research and consulting.

The new report states that power uprates, plant life extension programs and replacements in existing plants will significantly stimulate global demand for nuclear power plant components. Deaerators are part of the feed water system in nuclear power plants, and are used to remove dissolved oxygen and other gases from the feed water in order to control corrosion damage to the steam systems. During 2013-2020, total global demand for dearators is expected to reach 328 units: 179 units for replacements, and 149 units for new installations.

China and India are expected to show the most dramatic growth in terms of nuclear development, due to their high power demands. Nuclear power currently plays a modest role in both countries’ energy generation, but extensive development plans intend to increase their nuclear installed capacities. During 2013-2020, China is expected to hold a demand for 44 deaerator units, while India will require 13 units.

Europe has long used nuclear power, and is expected to generate the largest total regional demand for deaerators in 2013-2020, both for replacements and new installations, with a predicted market value of US$269m. The US is expected to have the highest demand for deaerator units in a single country during 2013-2020, with a predicted market value of US$95.06m. Deaerators in 42 nuclear reactors are expected to reach the end of their design life of 30 years during this period, accounting for significant replacement demand.

There are currently 434 active nuclear power reactors worldwide, and over 450 new nuclear reactors scheduled to come online in the near future. Various countries with existing nuclear power are expanding their installed nuclear power capacity, while around 20 countries with no nuclear power, including Poland, Thailand, Nigeria, and Vietnam are looking to introduce it into their energy mix.
