The report recognizes the following companies as the key players in Mobile Augmented Reality (AR) Market in Japan 2015-2019: Aurasma, Blippar, LM3LABS, Metaio, Total Immersion, VIVIDWORKS, Vuforia, Wikitude, Zappar
The report said: “For AR to function effectively, AR devices should have easy access to content. However, there may be several limitations in this context. For instance, using smart glasses to view information about strangers could mean a breach of privacy. One of the key features of AR devices is providing information about places, streets, offices, and residential buildings. This could be a concern for national security, as it can be accessed by miscreants for criminal/terror activities. Though there are no standard regulations to protect this content, this is expected to change in the near future. However, this is a negative trend in the market that might soon become a challenge.”
According to the report, Japan has a history of being the first to adopt any new technology, when compared to other nations. It has a strong technology infrastructure with advanced technologies being used in every sector. Be it bullet trains, robots, semiconductors, cars, or electronic gadgets, the country has adopted advanced technological standards for almost everything. In such circumstances, it is but usual for mobile AR technology to find widespread acceptance. The adoption rate of smartphones among the general public is high while tablets are commonly used by the enterprise segment. Internet connectivity too is not an issue of concern; unlike other countries in the APAC. These factors will motivate vendors to invest in the mobile AR market in Japan.
Further, the report states that the majority of apps available in the market fail because of poor content and inability to add new content.
The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
