Commenting on the report, an analyst said: “With increased demand for high-quality video and voice services, satellite TV providers are also launching their own satellites or forging partnerships with other satellite providers. In North America, Bell TV and DirecTV are the major satellite TV providers. Bell TV broadcasts with the help of four geostationary satellites named Nimiq 1, Nimiq 2, Nimiq 3, and Nimiq 6, which is owned by Telesat. DirecTV’s satellite fleet consists of 14 active satellites. These satellites significantly increase HD capacity in the US and Canada. In May 2015, the company launched the DIRECTV-15 that will provide backup to DirecTV’s existing satellite fleet and also increase 4K UltraHD capacity in North America.”
According to the report, the demand for fixed satellite service transponders has been increasing because of the adoption of HDTV among developed as well as developing countries. In addition, there is more demand for 3D channels that have a 40-50% higher bandwidth requirement compared to HDTV channels.
Further, the report states that the high capital expenditure involved in developing, manufacturing, launching, and insuring a satellite can deter the growth of the market over the next few years.
