Soft drinks declined compared with Q2-15, driven in particular by heavier losses in almost all the categories except energy drinks which continued to record growth. PL products performed below the market in most soft drinks categories. The year on year performance of dairy declined driven in particular, by losses in the dominant categories. Sales of alcoholic drinks grew driven in particular by increased sales of beer.

Key Findings

  • The packaged water category has benefited from particularly favorable weather conditions with above the average temperatures during the quarter and relatively good tourism
  • After two successive quarters of growth, nectars returned to losses, as the economic turmoil continued to take its toll on consumer spending
  • PL products continued to lead the category in squash/syrups due to the price advantage and lack of innovation and marketing activity of the brands
  • Major players continued to invest in the carbonates category
  • The main driver behind growth of alcoholic drinks was again the increased volumes of beer
