The Indian Defense Industry

The Indian defense market offers numerous market opportunities to both domestic and foreign manufacturers. As one of the largest defense equipment markets in the world, the country is expected to spend US$120.3 billion on capital acquisition alone during the forecast period. In the next two years, the country is forecast to spend a significant amount of money on homeland security, intelligence and cyber security, primarily due to an increasingly hazardous geopolitical environment, the threat of terrorism and internal security concerns.

The Russian Defense Industry

Russia is the world’s third largest defense spender and is forecast to spend US$556.4 billion on defense over the forecast period. Over the forecast period, the Russian government is forecast to continue investing in the modernization of its armed forces, including the replacement of Soviet era equipment.

The Chinese Defense Industry

The Chinese defense market registered significant growth during the review period and is expected to retain this positive growth rate during the forecast period. The Chinese defense budget, which valued US$104.62 billion in 2012, is the largest defense budget in the Asia-Pacific region. Defense expenditure grew at a CAGR of 11.5% during the review period. Due to the rapid growth of the country’s defense budget, the Chinese army is now capable of rivaling the leading military powers of Western European countries.

The Brazilian Defense Industry

Brazil maintains stable and amicable relationships with its neighboring countries, and has not engaged in any major armed conflict with another nation in over 50 years. The country is vast and geographically diverse and is home to the Amazon River and rainforests. It also has large reserves of several natural resources, and has recently discovered substantial oil reserves. The country’s defense procurements are largely focused on the protection of its substantial resources from illegal mining, deforestation and drug trafficking.
