Industry Executives Expect Prefabrication to Impact Energy Requirements Least, Says the New Study on ASDReports

Prefabrication Trends and Future Outlook in the Construction Industry” is a new report now available on ASDRerports, that globally analyzes changes in demand for prefabricated building types over the next two years, and the impact of prefabrication on efficiency and productivity. This report also examines executive opinions towards the area of innovation enhancement in prefabricated construction. It analyzes the projected increase in demand for construction segments in prefabrication during 2014–2016. In addition, it provides an overview of the key barriers faced by construction companies when implementing prefabrication.

The difference

Additional Report Highlights
Overall, 74% of respondents anticipate ‘cost’ to be most influenced by prefabrication. The use of less expensive prefabricated material, lower installation cost and a decrease in labor costs drives cost reduction in prefabrication-based construction projects. Additionally, 63% of executives each foresee the impact of prefabrication on ‘efficiency and quality’ and ‘time management’. The production of prefabricated units in factory conditions enhances efficiency and quality control while reducing construction costs. The use of prefabricated materials also allows greater feedback from architects in terms of material selection. The use of prefabrication techniques allows construction companies to carry out proceedings at both onsite and offsite locations simultaneously. Moreover, it enhances capability to withstand adverse weather conditions which can adversely affect time schedules and results in better coordination among various units. In total, 62% and 52% of respective respondents expect prefabrication to impact ‘design and innovation’ and ‘workforce and resource use’. In addition, industry executives expect prefabrication to have the least impact on ‘energy requirement’.
