CMCs are manufactured by embedding ceramic matrices with refractory fibers. Ceramic matrices can be of various types including silicon carbide and alumina matrices. CMCs are used in a variety of industrial sectors including Mechanical and Chemical, Aerospace and Defense, and Energy and Environmental because of their superior material properties such as heat and wear resistance and high strength.
The Leap program initiated by GE Aviation, a subsidiary of GE, is the major trend being witnessed by the Global CMC market. GE's program is aimed at manufacturing and supplying CMC turbine-based Leap engines to major players in the Aviation industry.
