Global Biodiesel Market

The limited availability of petrol and its surging prices have brought about the development of alternative fuels such as biodiesel, bioethanol, and biogas. The major advantages of biodiesel are that it enhances engine life, and unlike petroleum, it does not pollute the environment. The biodiesel market is slated for a huge growth in the next few years not only because of the growing environmental concerns, but also because of the surging prices for non-renewable sources of energy, especially petroleum. Governments across the globe are encouraging the use of biodiesel; and many countries have initiated blending of conventional diesel with a percentage of biodiesel.

Analyzing Biofuels from Rice

History has seen fuel innovations being driven majorly by transportation needs rather than the overall need to revolutionize the energy needs of the society. It has also been very evident that biofuels have been treated more as a cost variant to high crude oil prices rather than a serious energy alternative. However with the advent of new economies which have now begun to realize their worst energy security dreams; biofuels are now receiving the impetus required for becoming a fuel source for the future. Biofuels have received the biggest boost from transportation as even though they release CO2 on combustion; their overall use reduces the emissions from fossil sources as also their easy adaptability to existing engines and the promise of biodegradability which makes them very attractive.

Emerging Biofuel Market in India

The Indian biofuel market has been consistently witnessing growth and developments for past few years. The Government of India is injecting huge amount of money and resources into the development of this sector in an attempt to reduce dependency on imported oil. High volatile oil prices and production levels have further enlightened the need for continuous developments of this sector.

Analyzing the Biofuel Industry in India

Biodiesel is a hot topic internationally as well as in India. Since the beginning of the 2000s, the Government of India and, to a greater extent, various state governments have promoted the production and consumption of biodiesel. Proponents of biodiesel point to the potential of oilseeds as a substitute for fossil fuels, underlining their ability to reduce India’s energy dependency and bring down greenhouse gas emissions. They also highlight opportunities for greening the countryside and creating rural employment and income.

Global Biofuels Industry

Although biofuels are mainly used to replace or supplement the traditional petroleum-based transportation fuels, they can also be deployed to generate heat and electricity. Being an alternative to fossils, biofuels can be applied to existing vehicles with little or no engine modification. Although they release CO2 when burned in internal combustion engines, they differ from fossil fuels partly because their use reduces the net emission of carbon dioxide and other gases associated with global climate change and partly because they are biodegradable.

Understanding Biofuels

The topic of biofuels has drawn increased interest worldwide in the wake of steeply-climbing fossil fuel prices in 2005-2006. In late 2006/early 2007 prices began to subside, but are unlikely to return to their former levels. The painful experience of national economies at the mercy of decisions taken far from their shores left a lasting impression on policymakers, and many nations now have a strong desire to increase energy self-reliance.

Biofuel Industry in the United States

Biofuels are liquid, solid, or gaseous fuels derived from renewable biological sources. Biomass can be burned directly for thermal energy or converted to other high-value energy sources including ethanol, biodiesel, methanol, hydrogen, or methane. Currently, ethanol from corn grain and biodiesel are the only biofuels produced in the United States on an industrial scale.

Analyzing Algae as a Source of Fuel

Algae are a large and diverse group of simple, typically autotrophic organisms, ranging from unicellular to multicellular forms. The largest and most complex marine forms are called seaweeds. Though the prokaryotic cyanobacteria (commonly referred to as blue-green algae) were traditionally included as "algae" in older textbooks, many modern sources regard this as outdated and restrict the term algae to eukaryotic organisms.

Biofuels Market in Chile

Over the last decade and half, the escalating concerns over global warming along with the measures to reduce dependence on foreign fuel as well as reduction in emission levels has led to the development of sources other than oil for transportation. A wide range of alternatives have been developed - from hydrogen based vehicles to natural gas vehicle. However, none of them have been as effective as biofuels - ethanol and biodiesel - both from commercial as well as environmental perspective. Use of biofuels for transportation have a great potential to replace a substantial amount of petroleum worldwide in coming decades and a clear trend in that direction has already begun. In last couple of years, the production and consumption of biofuels have entered a new era of global growth, experiencing expansion both in the scale of the industry and the number of countries involved.
